  Attractions on the Island of Rota

Latte Stone Quarry: The Latte Stone Pillars excavation ground on Rota is a remarkable site to see. By using stone and bone tools for carving, the ancient people of the Marianas had indeed a method to carve stone and build homes of these latte pillars. As found on the island of Tinian, Rota as well possesses these astonishing symbols of the ancient people of the Marianas.

Swimming Hole: On the northern side of the island is Rota's famous natural Swimming hole. It is home to various tropical fish and is a perfect place for a refreshing dip. There is sand on the bottom and the depth of the water varies between 4-7 feet according to the tides.

Bird Sanctuary: Thirty-six kinds of seabirds make their home at the sanctuary on Saguagahga Point. Even during the Rota hunting season, hunting is not allowed in this area. Watching the seabirds fly at daybreak and at sunset is a marvelous spectacle showing nature at its best.

Wedding Cake Mt.: Viewed from afar, this rocky mountain with its shape deemed its name 'Wedding Cake Mountain' for it does look in the form of layered cakes commonly made for any wedding festival or celebration. Located south of Song Song village, this mountain is one of Rota's postcard sites to capture.

Teteto Beach: Teteto Beach is a popular spot for marine activities like swimming and snorkeling or simply finding yourself under a palm tree shade in full relaxation.

Old Japanese Locomotive: The Old Japanese Locomotive near Song Song Village was used to transport sugar cane to the sugar mill from around the island.

Tonga Cave: Tonga Cave, a huge natural stalactite grotto, was used as a hospital for Japanese soldiers for some time during World War II. This cave, being quite large, is amazingly a nature-oriented site as you can see the growth of new stalactites and stalagmites.

As Matmos Cliff: As Matmos Cliff has been one of the most popular sites in Rota over the years for cliff fishing. Located at the east end of the island, this cliff offers clear visibility from atop the cliff to the ocean floor, approximately 30-40 meters of depth is clearly visible to the naked eye.

Song Song Village: Song Song, Rota's principal village, is home to many of the island's residents, public offices, restaurants and stores. Situated on a thin stretch of land north of Wedding Cake Mountain.

Ponya Point: Ponya Point, the site of Rota's fishing derby, offers a vast beautiful ocean view and various tropical indigenous fish found in the islands.

Alaguan Bay Look Out: Another postcard moment to capture. Alaguan Bay Look Out provides a breathtaking view featuring the contrasting colors of the land, sky and sea.

Rota Zoo: Rota Zoo provides some interesting and awkward looking indigenous plants and animal species to enjoy. A place to consider when visiting Rota as some of these exotic animals plants cannot be found anywhere else.
